The Shining

Hello people had a nice breakfast in the form of Kichidi and now it is the time for blogging! The whole week was experimental...I was learning new things like...Windows 7, Skydrive, Zumodrive, Google Wave and @ my profession it is Ax 2009 and Oracle which got hooked me all the time. So on the whole last week was a good learning experience in every form and I hope you too had a good learning experience.

Coming to today's movie it is none other than classic thriller 'The Shining'. So for all those Stanley Kubrick's fans and Jack Nicholson's fans are you ready to watch....

Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson) arrives at the Overlook Hotel for a job interview. Manager Stuart Ullman (Barry Nelson) warns him that a previous caretaker got cabin fever and killed his family and himself during the long winter in which the hotel is entirely isolated. The hotel itself is built on the site of an Indian burial ground. Jack’s son, Danny (Danny Lloyd), has ESP and has had terrifying premonitions about the hotel. Jack's wife, Wendy (Shelley Duvall), tells a visiting doctor about Danny's imaginary friend "Tony" and that Jack had given up drinking because he had physically abused Danny after a binge.

The family arrives at the hotel on closing day and is given a tour. The elderly African-American chef Dick Hallorann (Scatman Crothers) surprises Danny by speaking to him telepathically and offering him some ice cream. He explains to Danny that he and his grandmother shared the gift; they called the communication "shining." Danny asks if there is anything to be afraid of in the hotel, particularly Room 237. Hallorann tells Danny that the hotel has a certain "shine" to it and many memories, not all of them good and advises him to stay out of room 237 under all circumstances.

A month passes and Jack's writing project is going nowhere. Meanwhile, Danny and Wendy have fun and go in the hotel's hedge maze, which Jack finds a model of it in the gold room revealing Wendy and Danny in it. Wendy is concerned about the phone lines being out due to the snow storm and Danny has more frightening visions. Danny’s curiosity about Room 237 finally gets the better of him when he sees the room has been opened. Later, Danny shows up injured and visibly traumatized causing Wendy to think that Jack has been abusing Danny. Jack wanders into the hotel’s Gold Room where he meets a ghostly bartender named Lloyd (Joe Turkel) who serves him whiskey. Jack complains to the bartender about his relationship with Wendy. Afterward, Wendy shows up and apologizes for accusing Jack, explaining that Danny told her a "crazy woman in one of the rooms" was responsible for his injuries. Jack investigates Room 237 and has an encounter with the ghost of a dead woman there, but tells Wendy he saw nothing. Wendy and Jack argue about whether Danny should be removed from the hotel and Jack returns to the Gold Room, now filled with ghosts having a costume party. Here he meets who he believes is the ghost of the previous caretaker Delbert Grady (Philip Stone) who tells Jack that he has to "correct" his wife and child. Later, Jack sabotages the hotel radio, cutting off communication from the outside world.

OMG! what happens next.... will Jack 'correct' his wife and child? will his wife and child able to escape? Is there anybody hiding in the hotel?? to know all these secrets you have to pick this DVD ASAP.

Vertigo

Hello people I hope you all doing great this week and probably disappointed with the 'Union Budget'. Though most of us are not satisfied with the benefits from the latest budget we have to agree that there is nothing much to offer as the whole world economy is yet to stabilize, lets hope/pray/work for the best things to happen in near feature :)

Coming to our picture today I am bringing you none other than Alfred Hitchcock's famous classic thriller called 'Vertigo'. So lets start the show...

Detective John "Scottie" Ferguson (James Stewart) discovers that he has acrophobia (the fear of heights) during a police chase across the rooftops of San Francisco. Scottie loses his footing and clings to the guttering to keep from falling. Scottie experiences vertigo as he stares at the ground several stories below him. A fellow police officer (Fred Graham) tries to help, but he loses his balance and plunges to the ground.

After the incident, Scottie decides to retire from police work, but an acquaintance named Gavin Elster (Tom Helmore) hires Scottie to decipher the peculiar behavior of his wife, Madeleine Elster (Kim Novak). Scottie follows Madeleine as she visits the grave, the former home and the museum portrait of a dead woman named Carlotta Valdes. Scottie learns that Carlotta Valdes had a tragic life that ended in suicide and that she was Madeleine's great-grandmother. After following Madeleine to Fort Point, Scottie sees Madeleine jump into the San Francisco Bay. Scottie rescues her and brings her to his home to recover. Madeleine eventually confesses that she feels like she may be going insane and has to repress suicidal impulses. Scottie comforts and reassures her and the intimacy between them grows.

When Madeleine recounts the details of a bad dream, Scottie identifies the setting as Mission San Juan Bautista and brings her there in an effort to ease her anxiety. At the mission, Madeleine suddenly runs into the church and up the staircase of the bell tower. Scottie chases after her, but his acrophobia prevents him from making it to the top of the staircase. Halted on the steps by vertigo and paralyzing fear, Scottie hears a scream and, through a window, sees Madeleine fall from the tower. The manner of her death was officially declared to be suicide and Gavin blamed it on possession by Carlotta Valdes.

What happens next? is Scottie the real victim or he been dragged into this? If he is dragged then who has grudge on him? will he overcome the trauma of Vertigo is the remaining climax.

As per Vish: One of the good classic thrillers of all time, this flick makes you sit till the end and keeps you guessing most of the time. Works like a feast for all Alfred Hitchcock's fans and James Stewart's fans. So people till next time have a nice time viewing 'Vertigo' :)

The Medusa Touch

Hello people I hope you all had a great week and it is just few hours away for another weekend. Every weekend come and go unlike my movies which stays forever in your heart! lol this weekend I am giving you a treat with yet another superduper movie called 'The Medusa Touch'. So, people lets roll the reels

A French detective, Brunel (Ventura), is on an exchange scheme in London. He is assigned to investigate the murder of novelist John Morlar (Burton). As they examine the crime scene, the policemen find that the victim is actually still alive in spite of his heavy injuries and have him rushed to hospital.
With the help of Morlar's journals and Dr Zonfeld (Remick), a psychiatrist whom the author had started visiting, Brunel reconstructs Morlar's past life, which (seen in flashback) is full of inexplicable catastrophes, including the tragic deaths of people he disliked or who offended him.
Morlar is, in fact, a psychic with powerful telekinetic abilities. Disgusted at the world (in his 1988 book Nightmare Movies, Kim Newman described Morlar's dialogue as "incredibly misanthropic"), Morlar has caused two recent disasters: an airliner crash and the loss of a manned spacecraft.

oh my god! that is really unthinkable, how can he do that....will our super detective and Dr Zonfeld able to crack the case....what is his next targets....will he accomplish it or not is the remaining interesting climax.

As per Vish: Undoubtedly one of the most classic thrillers I have seen. It is filled with some outstanding performances by Richard Burton, Lino Ventura, which makes the movie A MUST WATCH for all genres. So people for this weekend have a Medusa Touch :)

Blue Velvet

Heey guys and gals I hope you all enjoyed my last flick. Today I am coming up with a mystery/thriller called 'Blue Velvet'. This movie is about a college student who unveils a mystery. So lets dont waste time and get into the details...

Jeffrey Beaumont (Kyle MacLachlan) returns home from Oak Lake College after his father (Jack Harvey) suffers a near fatal stroke. While walking home from the hospital, he cuts through a vacant lot and discovers a severed ear. Jeffrey takes the ear to Police Detective John Williams (George Dickerson), through whom he meets the detective’s daughter, Sandy (Laura Dern). She tells him details about the ear case and a suspicious woman, Dorothy Vallens (Isabella Rossellini). Increasingly curious, Jeffrey enters Dorothy's apartment by posing as an exterminator, and while Dorothy is distracted by a man (Fred Pickler) dressed in a yellow suit at her door, steals her spare key. Jeffrey and Sandy attend Dorothy's nightclub act at the Slow Club, leaving early so Jeffrey can sneak into her apartment to snoop. He hurriedly hides in a closet when she returns home. However, Dorothy, wielding a knife, finds him and threatens to hurt him. Thinking his curiosity is merely sexual and aroused by his voyeurism, Dorothy makes Jeffrey undress at knifepoint and fellates him. Their encounter is interrupted by a knock at the door, and Dorothy hides Jeffrey in the closet. From there, he witnesses the visitor, Frank Booth (Dennis Hopper), inflict his bizarre sexual proclivities — which include inhalant, dry humping, and sadomasochism — upon Dorothy. Frank is an extremely foul-mouthed, violent sociopath whose orgasmic climax is a fit of both pleasure and rage. Frank has kidnapped Dorothy's husband and son to force her to perform sexual favors. When Frank leaves, a sad and desperate Dorothy tries to seduce Jeffrey again and demands that he hit her, but when he refuses, she loses interest in sex and asks to be left alone.

While attending another of Dorothy's performances at the Slow Club, where she sings the song "Blue Velvet", Jeffrey spots Frank in the audience fondling a piece of blue-velvet fabric he cut from Dorothy's robe. Later, in the car park, Jeffrey watches Frank and his cohorts drive away before going to Dorothy's apartment again. Jeffrey spends the next few days spying on Frank.

hmmm will he get any valuable information on Frank....will he able to find the address where Dorthy's husband and kid is hiding...will he able to save them....and first of all will he able to survive in this mystery is the remaining story.

As per Vish: A perfect thriller in all aspects with some good melody songs. All the actors gave the best of them though 'Dennis Hopper' hogs the limelight with his outstanding performance as Frank with his gas-huffing, socio-path and foul language. So for today have a nice thrilling time :)

Rear Window

Hello people welcome back to IIndshow :) today I am coming up with critically acclaimed classic thriller called 'Rear Window'. So lets start the movie...

Photographer L.B. Jeffries (James Stewart) is recuperating from a broken leg and confined to a wheelchair in his small Greenwich Village apartment. He passes the time by spying on his neighbors through his apartment's rear window, including a dancer who exercises in her underwear, a lonely woman who lives by herself, a songwriter working at his piano, and several married couples, including a salesman, Lars Thorwald, (Raymond Burr) with a bedridden wife.

Every day Jeffries is visited by Stella (Thelma Ritter), a home care nurse and Lisa Fremont (Grace Kelly), his girlfriend. He talks to both of them about his neighbors. After the salesman makes repeated late-night trips carrying a large case, Jeffries notices that the bedridden wife is now gone, and sees the salesman cleaning a large knife and handsaw. Later, the salesman ties a large packing crate with heavy rope, and has moving men haul it away. By now, Jeffries, Stella, and Lisa have concluded the missing wife has been murdered by the salesman.

An old Army buddy of Jeffries' named Doyle (Wendell Corey) is now a police detective looks into the situation and finds that Mrs. Thorwald is in the country, has sent a postcard to her husband, and the packing crate they had seen was full of her clothes. Chastised, they all admit to feeling a bit ghoulish and even disappointed to find out there was no a murder . Jeffries and Lisa settle down for an evening alone, but a scream soon pierces the courtyard when a dog belonging to one of the neighbors is found dead. The neighbors all rush to their windows to see what has happened, except for Thorwald, who sits unmoving in his dark apartment, the tip of his cigarette glowing.

Convinced that Thorwald is guilty after all, they slip a note under his door asking "What have you done with her?" to watch his reaction. As a pretext to get him away from his apartment, Jeffries calls Thorwald and arranges a meeting at a bar. He thinks Thorwald killed the dog to keep it from digging up something buried in the courtyard flower patch. When Thorwald leaves, Lisa and Stella grab a shovel and start digging, but find nothing.

Lisa climbs the fire escape to Thorwald's apartment and squeezes in an open window. Inside she finds Mrs. Thorwald's purse and wedding ring, which she would never have left behind on a trip. She holds them up for Jeffries to see, but he can only watch as Thorwald comes back up the stairs, trapping Lisa inside the apartment.

What happens next will Lisa get caught! if she...will she reveal the secreat behind her investigation....is the suspect real muderer or not! is the remaining interesting climax.

As per Vish: Surely, worth a watch movie by Hitchcock. The classic movie lovers maight fall in love with this movie. So, for today open your 'Rear Window'! lol

The Day of the Jackal

There are only few movies which will not get positive reviews on the day 1 but still be considered as one of the all time best movies. Example is Sholay(hindi) which was a flop movie when it was first released, broke all records and became the most popular hindi movie in India after the re-release. Even the present movie "The Day of the Jackal" falls in the same category. When this movie was first released it turned out as a flop but after few years everyone recognised this one as one of the best thriller movie of all time. Dont ask me about the reason why these things happen but thanks to those thriller movie lovers who recognised the speciality of this movie.

Dissatisfied with French President Charles de Gaulle's decision to give independence to Algeria, the OAS, a militant french underground organization, decides to assassinate De Gaulle, believing they can restore the glory of France by killing De Gaulle. The leader of the OAS, Jean-Marie Bastien-Thiry botches the attempt, and along with several other members of the plot, end up being caught and executed. The remaining leadership of the OAS, demoralized and having fled the country to escape capture, realize that they cannot finish the job they have started through their organization and have to hire a professional assassin to do the job.

After examining the dossiers of several candidates, they settle on one man, who comes to visit them. He points out that they have no choice about hiring a professional assassin, not only is their organization riddled with police informants, but their bungling has now made the job even more difficult because De Gaulle's security has been dramatically enhanced due to the attempt. He agrees to take the assignment provided they pay half of his very large fee in advance, and comply with several minor conditions. There will be no further contact between the four men, other than they will set up a telephone number in Paris he can call to get information. He will only be known by his code name: The Jackal.

The movie follows the methodical preparations the Jackal makes, including the determination of how, when and where to perform the hit (which is not disclosed to us), creation of a number of fake identities and obtaining the resources to do the job, such as a rifle modified to look like something else, and photographs of himself as an old man. Despite being the title character, in the movie the "Jackal" seems to talk the least of all the characters; we understand his motivations and his cunning brilliance by his actions. The violence also seems very subdued; the additional killings The Jackal performs in the process of covering his actions are brief and almost invisible, or are performed off-screen.

Meanwhile, French security forces, upset because of the sudden rash of bank robberies in France, discover that they are being done by members of the OAS, who do not know why they have been ordered to do them. Realizing that the leadership of the OAS are using the bank robberies to finance something, French Security decides to detain their chief clerk: Adjutant Viktor Wolenski. Rather than request Wolenski's extradition from Austria, French Security decides to invoke self-help: they kidnap him from Italy and smuggle him across the border into France.

Torturing Wolenski to death, French Security extracts enough information to discover that there is quite possibly a plot on the life of President De Gaulle by a foreign assassin whose code name may be Jackal, and if that is the case, it represents a national emergency. The Prime Minister convenes the entire cabinet, and the head of the State Police admits there is no way they can find this Jackal by normal means. They can't detain him at the border; they don't know his name. "Action Service" (the government's professional assassins) can't destroy him if he's in another country: they don't know whom to destroy. They can't arrest him if he's in the country; they don't know who he is. They can't search for him, they don't know what he looks like. Without a name and a face, they can do nothing to stop him. In short, they need the best detective they can find to put out a total effort to discover who The Jackal is - and do it in secrecy - before he succeeds and plunges France into a crisis.

The Police Commissioner admits there is one man - one of his employees - who can do the job: Deputy Commissioner Claude Lebel. Lebel is told to drop everything, focus on finding The Jackal and stopping him. He will have full powers and any resources he needs, subject to just two requirements of the job: no publicity, and do not fail. As in the novel, Deputy Commissioner Lebel is given a seemingly impossible assignment. Lebel's assistant Caron asks, "But no crime has been committed yet, so where are we supposed to start looking for the criminal?", to which Lebel answers, "We start by recognizing that, after De Gaulle, we are the two most powerful people in France."

As the Jackal has set up his methodical preparations to commit the crime, Lebel also methodically prepares every method he can devise to try to determine where The Jackal might be from, how he might perform the act and when and where he will do so. With assistance from the old boy network of police agencies in other countries, they discover a lead by looking for British subjects who have obtained passports as an adult using birth certificates of deceased children, and find a dead child, Paul Oliver Duggan, who applied for a passport decades after he had died. British authorities also discover whom they suspect The Jackal might be, Charles Calthrop, and realize that - while it may be a coincidence - "Cha" in Charles and "Cal" in Calthrop spell the French word for Jackal.

The police search the apartment belonging to Calthrop, and recover his passport. Which brings up the question, if they have his passport, what's he traveling on? French authorities are notified of Calthrop's identity as Duggan, and will look for him. Lebel discovers only a few hours too late that Duggan - The Jackal's false identity - has already entered the country.

The Jackal stops in a hotel, finds an attractive, bored married woman, Madame Montpellier, whose husband is away on holiday, and carries on a fling with her. He goes to her home (after secretly discovering her address from the hotel register) to see her for a few days. She mentions to him that the police were there, asking questions about him, and she knows he stole the car he has because it has local plates, but she's willing to protect him if he'll tell her what he's doing. He kills her and escapes out the window.

In the mean time, Lebel discovers that there is an informant in their midst: a telephone tap exposes that one of the members of the cabinet has a mistress, and has been revealing the top-secret details of their investigation to her in pillow talk. It turns out that she was feeding the information to a contact that The Jackal was calling. One of the members of the cabinet is curious, how did Lebel know who's telephone to tap to find out who the informant was. Lebel admits he didn't know, so he had a tap placed on all of their telephones. Several of the cabinet members are shocked.

The Jackal disposes of Calthrop's identity, and substitutes that of a Danish schoolteacher. He travels on to Paris. Meanwhile, the police discover Madame Montpellier has been murdered, so now Lebel no longer has to look for The Jackal in secrecy, police can simply make a full public search for her murderer. They discover that the Danish Schoolteacher, Per Lunquist, whose passport was stolen, got on the Paris-bound train. They race to the station only arriving a few minutes too late to prevent The Jackal from escaping.

Lebel realizes that they have only a few days to find the Jackal because he realizes he will strike during a medals ceremony at the next public holiday. Apparently dissatisfied at Lebel's presumptiousness in tapping their phones, the cabinet dismisses him with their thanks, saying they no longer need his help.

At a gay bathhouse, The Jackal is approached by another man, who picks him up. They go back to the man's apartment. Later the man sees a TV in a shop without sound, recognizing the Jackal's face but not knowing why. As he mentions this to The Jackal, the TV in the apartment has a newsflash telling that Per Lunquist is wanted for the murder of Madame Montpellier. The Jackal kills the man off-screen in his kitchen, then calmly sits down and watches the TV.

The Prime minister recalls Lebel, realizing that despite having in excess of 100,000 police and gendarmes looking for The Jackal, they can't find him, he's disappeared and they need Lebel after all.

On the day of the celebration, The Jackal passes a gendarme who inspects his papers. The Jackal has become a chameleon: by using certain tricks, he has made himself look like an elderly amputee. The Gendarme, seeing a one-legged old man on a crutch, lets him pass. The Jackal goes into an apartment, kills the landlady, unties his leg from behind his buttocks, goes into a top-floor flat, and reveals to us that his crutch had a more sinister purpose, as he disassembles it to produce the rifle which was disguised as the crutch.

The Jackal sets up his sniper's nest and aims his weapon at the spot where De Gaulle will stand as he gives out medals at the procession. He waits. Meanwhile, Lebel is continuing to circulate, trying to figure from where The Jackal will strike. Lebel runs into the gendarme who had met the disguised Jackal, and the two of them run toward the apartment.

What happens next whether the Lebel find the Jackel...If he finds will he stop the assasination....cant hold the horses then bring this Jackal to you house from DVD store.

As per vish: To watch classic movies you should really have a mood. You should not expect sneaky editing and fast running screenplay from the 1973 movie so it runs slowly but never looses the contact. Director will open the knots slowly and effectively so be patient to watch this lengthy movie you will be satisfied at the end.

The Great Escape

Its been long time that I posted a classic. I was waiting for the best classic to post and I dont wanna disappoint classic movie lovers, So today I cameup with one of the best of the best movie "The Great Escape". Lets get into the details about this escape....

Upset by the men and resources being wasted recapturing escaping Allied prisoners of war, the Nazi German High Command moves the most determined and successful of these captives to a brand-new, high-security prison camp, which the commandant, Colonel von Luger (Hannes Messemer), proclaims escapeproof.

The most dangerous of all, Squadron Leader Roger Bartlett (Richard Attenborough), known as "Big X", is dropped off by the Gestapo, who warn him that if he ever escapes again he will be shot. Finding himself locked up with "every escape artist in Germany", Bartlett immediately begins planning the largest escape ever attempted — construction of a tunnel system capable of sneaking out 250 men.

The first escape attempt, concocted during their time in the cooler together, is carried out by Hilts and Archibald Ives (Angus Lennie). However, they are caught and put straight back into the cooler. Later, when the three Americans in camp (Hendley, Hilts & Goff) are celebrating American Independence Day with the rest of the camp, a depressed Ives runs to climb the fence to escape, in full view of guards. Hilts notices and runs to stop him, but he is too late as Ives is gunned down by one of the guards.

Teams of men are organized to survey, dig, hide dirt, manufacture civilian clothing, forge documents, provide security and distractions, and procure contraband materials. The distraction was mainly from people singing. Flight Lieutenant Hendley (James Garner), "the scrounger", finds ingeniously devious ways to get whatever the others need, from a camera to identity cards. Flying Officer Louis Sedgwick (James Coburn), "the manufacturer", makes many of the tools they need, such as picks for digging and bellows for pumping breathable air into the tunnels. Flight Lieutenant Danny Velinski (Charles Bronson), "the tunnel king", is in charge of digging, while forgery is handled by Flight Lieutenant Colin Blythe (Donald Pleasence). Meanwhile, Captain Virgil "Cooler King" Hilts (Steve McQueen) manages to irritate the German guards with a combination of his frequent escapes and his smart-aleck behavior. Bartlett persuades Hilts to reconnoiter during one of his escapes and then let himself be recaptured, so that they will have knowledge of the surrounding countryside, and can create maps to guide the escapees out of German-held territory.

The prisoners work on three escape tunnels ("Tom", "Dick" and "Harry") simultaneously. After the first tunnel is discovered, they put all their efforts into completing the third. The last part of the tunnel is completed on the night of the escape, but is found to be twenty feet short of the woods that would provide cover. Nevertheless, seventy-six men escape before one is finally spotted coming out of the tunnel.
