American History X

Hello people as you all know I am being troubled with bad internet and hence micro-blogging with facebook & twitter rather than here. But whenever I have a good internet and enough time, then I will not leave chance to meet you all @ secondshow :)

Today I came with a wonderful movie called "American History X" which stars one of my favorite actor Edward Norton. So, lets dont waste time and get into the details...

Derek Vinyard (Edward Norton), a white supremacist, killing two black thugs who try to break into his car, while his brother, Danny (Edward Furlong), watches in shocked disbelief. The film then switches to color and skips ahead three years, and we see Danny, a 17-year-old white supremacist, sitting outside the principal's office, where his history teacher Murray (Elliott Gould) explains to the principal, Dr. Sweeney (Avery Brooks), that Danny wrote an essay sympathetic to Adolf Hitler's Mein Kampf. After some discussion, Dr. Sweeney calls Danny into his office and informs him that he will now be his history teacher, calling the class "American History X", and that his first assignment is to write a paper about his brother Derek, or be expelled from Venice Beach High School.

Flashbacks goes to 3 years before where Derek's transformation into a vengeful white supremacist in Venice Beach. Having already been influenced by his firefighter father's latent racism, Derek is driven to action when his father is shot and killed while fighting a fire in an African-American neighborhood. Eventually Derek becomes second-in-command of a neo-Nazi street gang, The D.O.C., and entices young whites to join. The gang commits acts of intimidation, such as damaging a store owned by a Korean and challenging black players to basketball games to win the basketball court as turf. These incidents go unnoticed by the family until an argument with Murray, who is Jewish, leads to Doris (Beverly D'Angelo) kicking Derek out of her home. Later that night while Derek is with his girlfriend Stacey (Fairuza Balk), three black men attempt to steal Derek's dad's truck. Derek shoots at the two of the men, killing the first one instantly. The second man, one of the black basketball players, is wounded and killed with a curb-stomp in the street. Danny watches in horror as this unfolds. The police arrest Derek as he smiles wickedly at a shocked Danny.
After being convicted of voluntary manslaughter, Derek is sentenced to three years at the California Institution for Men in Chino. There he joins the Aryan Brotherhood prison gang. After about a year, he becomes disillusioned with the gang, especially over the group's friendly dealings with a Mexican prison gang. When he voices these opinions, he is ignored by the other white supremacists. Derek decides to no longer associate with them when he befriends a Black prison inmate, Lamont (Guy Torry).

How Lamont changes our Derek into a good human being...and whether our Derek who now sees himself in his Brother's attitude will able to change him??? to know the rest of the story you have to pick this DVD ASAP.

As per Vish: One of the best heart-touching movie which I have seen in recent times. The way the director narrates the story and the way the screen play works is very good and never distracts the point what he wants to tell. As always Edward Norton is amazing...I dont know why he was not considered for Academy Award for this role, though he was nominated. But the critical acclaim which he received for Derek's role is more than a statue. So, people till next time have a wonderful viewing and I hope you too will cherish in watching Norton as Derek :)

Oldboy

Hello guys and gals a very Happy New Year to everyone. I hope everyone had enjoyed at their best on the N Y E. Our party started @ 22hrs on 31st…we started with beers accompanied with some stuff and started chit chatting about everything on earth till 00:30. Once we are done with the drinks we started roaming in the streets…screaming all the way….HAPPY NEW YEAR & JAI TELANGANA (though we have nothing to do with Telangana)…once our friends came all the way from Kukatpally to wish….we all hugged and screamed once again….JAI GREATER RAYALASEEMA (as we are from Rayalaseema and again nothing to do with the activity). It was all fun & we started having our late night dinner…with yummy veg curries accompanied with Nan’s hitting bed by 02:30.

And on Jan 1st me & my girlfriend planned to go for a temple but after seeing enormous crowds @ the venue we didn’t dare to step in. We just drove drove drove….the climate was perfect little bit sunny yet windy made our long drive quite a good one….and after a loooooong drive we ended up at Lingampally!!! This is about 40KM away. There we met our old friend and had a nice chat with him till 13hrs and started returning to the city. As we both were hungry….started discussion on what to eat and where….after almost 30 min of huge discussion we ended up @ Kritinga Rayalseema Restaurant in Madhapur. I had my region’s favourite ‘Raagi mudha’ with ‘Rasam’ as my GF had her region’s favourite ‘Biryani’. The food was amazing and worth a try as it is very authentic and very much affordable…as we ended up paying 180  after a good lunch I need a long sleep and it is also successfully accomplished as I returned to my room…directly went to sleep for next few hours! I hope you too enjoyed on these days :)

Coming to today's movie I came with rather unusual flick called 'Oldboy' which is from Korea. This movie has everything right from fights to suspense which makes you sit till the end credits. So lets see what is this movie all about....

The film opens with a man holding another man over a building ledge by his tie. The man holding the other man is asked his name after he says that he wants to tell a story. The man is Oh Dae-su - a Korean businessman, husband and father.

The scene flashes back to an overweight and drunken Dae-su as he sits in a local police station while his friend, Joo-Hwan, bails him out. Dae-su calls his daughter on a public phone, as it is her birthday. Joo-Hwan takes the phone to also wish Yeun-Hee a happy birthday, and Oh Dae-su's wife takes the phone to ask for her husband's speedy return. Joo-Hwan turns to get him and realizes Oh Dae-su had disappeared.

Days later, Dae-su awakens confined in a shabby hotel room, with no explanation of where he is or why he is there. He is not allowed visitors, nor phone calls, and is fed only fried dumplings through a narrow slot. Experiencing hysteria and hallucinations during his captivity, he frequently attempts suicide but is often gassed into unconsciousness. Dae-su, resigned to his fate, keeps himself occupied with shadowboxing and recording his captivity with tattoos, using a television as his calendar. He trains for fighting by punching an outline of a man painted on the wall. While watching television, Dae-su discovers that his wife has been murdered, his daughter sent to foster parents and that he himself is the prime murder suspect. Dae-su makes plans to escape, and begins to tunnel through the wall. Close to the realization of his plan, Dae-su is set free on the rooftop of a building with a new suit and his prison diaries, fifteen years after his imprisonment began.

Upon his release, Dae-su meets the man attempting to commit suicide by jumping off the edge. Saving the man seconds before he falls, Dae-su tells him his story up to this point. As the man starts his own tale, Dae-su gives up interest and wanders off, mugging a woman for her sunglasses. As the woman attempts to get help from a policeman, the jumper falls onto a car in the building's courtyard, allowing Dae-su to escape.

While wandering the streets of the city, Dae-su meets Mi-do (Kang Hye-jeong), a sushi chef at a local restaurant, who takes pity on him when he passes out and brings him to her home. After receiving a phone call from the still unidentified former captor, Dae-su resolves to find him and locates the restaurant that provided the fried dumplings during his imprisonment, following the delivery boy to his former prison. Once inside, Dae-su ambushes the warden and tortures him for information. The info includes tape recordings of his captor, his only spoken motive being that "Oh Dae-su talks too much." Dae-su fights his way out of the prison past hordes of guards, suffering several serious wounds before escaping. After Dae-su collapses in the street, a stranger places him in a taxi, only to direct him to Mi-do's address and identify Dae-su by name, showing his face briefly, which Dae-su knows but can't place, before the taxi leaves.

The next day, the man, named Woo-jin (Yu Ji-tae) reveals himself as Dae-su's kidnapper and offers Dae-su the chance to play a game, where he must discover Woo-jin's motives behind Dae-su's kidnapping. Mi-do will die if he fails, but if he succeeds, Woo-jin will kill himself.

hmmmm quite an interesting twist...what happens next?? will Dae-Su able to find why he has been kidnapped...will he able to save his lover?? to know all these answers you have to pick this DVD.

PS: I used regional names just for fun and nothing to do with agitations!

As per Vish: As this was the first Korean movie I was watching...I was little bit apprehensive about the outcome, but surprisingly the movie is awesome and also the performances. It takes lots of guts to protray these kind of role...but Choi Min-sik as Dae-su is so good that you will be in trauma even after few hours of watching. He wont leave your mind so fast...WTG Choi Min-sik. And kudos to the director who also been part of writing the story. In the NEW Year I started with something NEW how about you??

Scarface

Heey people I hope everyone had a great Vinayaka Chavithi and ate lots of food! lol I ate a lot as usual! lol and watched few movies too But this time telugu ficks, for a change. Today I am gonna introduce you to 'Scarface' who is quite opposite to my previous 'Patch Adams'. This guy is ruthless killer who cares only about money money and money. Lets welcome Mr. 'Scarface'....

The film begins with a description of how, in 1980, Cuban Vice President Fidel Castro let the gates open on Mariel Harbor in Cuba allowing thousands of Cubans to immigrate to Florida on boatlifts. However, some of these immigrants were criminals or ex-convicts. The opening credits show authentic video news footage during the Mariel Boatlift and of the Cuban immigrants arriving in the United States.
The opening scenes shows one of these Cubans, Tony Montana (Al Pacino), one of the 125,000 Cubans that immigrated to Miami, Florida, and one of at least 25,000 who has a criminal record. He is being interrogated by three tough-talking immigration officers about his life in Cuba, and of his arrival in America. He and his best friend and former Cuban Army buddy Manny Ribera (Steven Bauer) are met with resistance, particularly because of their criminal records, and are placed in limbo (so to speak) in Freedomtown, a place where Cuban refugees without green cards are kept. A few months later, Manny makes Tony aware of a deal, where a wealthy man, Frank Lopez, can give them access to Green Cards and be able to leave Freedomtown. But they have to kill a former Cuban security agent named Emilio Rebenga, who tortured Frank's brother to death in Cuba, in order to obtain it. Tony does this without much thought, stabbing Rebenga during a riot, and they receive their residency.
Over the next few weeks, Tony and Manny begin working in a small Cuban food stand to make money, but Tony soon grows restless. He wishes to leave behind his working lifestyle and have all the money he can possibly have. One evening they both meet with drug dealer Omar Suarez (F. Murray Abraham) (the same man who made the "Rebenga deal") for another job. Omar wants to unload a boat from Mexico containing 500 kilograms of marijuana and offers to pay them $500 each. Tony balks and demands at least $1,000. So, Omar offers them $5,000 each for buying two kilograms of cocaine worth $25,000 a piece from Colombian dealer "Hector the Toad" who will be arriving in Miami in a few days. Tony and Omar dislike each other from the start, and Omar even attempted to pull out a gun due to the argument over the marijuana offer, but Omar's driver Waldo calmed them down by the "colombian deal" suggestion. Omar will also give Tony the money as well as weapons for the deal just in case anything goes wrong.
A few days later, Tony and Manny, as well as two other associates from Cuba who spent time in Freedomtown, Angel (Pepe Serna) and Chi Chi (Angel Salazar), travel to a small hotel in Miami Beach to meet with Hector for the drug deal. But the transaction soon turns bad when it's apparent that Hector never intends to sell the cocaine he has, and only wants to steal the money that Tony has, going as far at torturing Angel to death with a chainsaw. But Tony, Manny, and Chi Chi escape alive and with the cocaine, killing Hector and his associates in the escape. Instead of allowing Omar to take the cocaine to his boss Frank Lopez (Robert Loggia), Tony takes it to Frank personally, already distrusting of Omar (it is never revealed if Omar was in league with Hector to kill Tony, or if it was just a coincidence that Omar set the drug deal up unaware that Hector planned to kill his buyers). Tony manages to win Frank over with his sense of humor and bold attitude, and he ends up getting a job under Frank in his drug dealing business (along with Manny). Meanwhile, Tony takes an interest in Frank's girlfriend, Elvira Hancock (Michelle Pfeiffer). Frank takes Tony, Manny and his associates out to the Babylon Nightclub where Frank frequently attends. While Tony flirts with Elvira, she doesn't show any interest in him (or anyone else for that matter).
A few months later, Tony pays a visit to his estranged family's home. It is implied that Tony's father, a U.S. Navy sailor, walked out on the family years ago, but his mother (Miriam Colon) and his younger sister Gina (Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio) are home. Gina is excited to see Tony (who hasn't seen the family in five years), while his mother isn't too thrilled, aware of his criminal history. When he offers his mother $1,000 (claiming he's "made it"), his mother angrily rejects the gift. She believes he's still up to no good, and wants him to leave because she doesn't want him rubbing off on Gina. Tony leaves, but Gina runs after him. He slips her the $1,000 secretly, and tells her to spend it on whatever she wants and to give his mother a little from time to time. It is clear he cares for his sister greatly, but later on in the film gives proof that he is very overprotective of her, bordering on an obsession.
Some time later, while in Bolivia, Tony and Omar begin discussing business plans with plantation owner and drug kingpin Alejandro Sosa (Paul Shenar) on the behalf of Frank who couldn't make it down. Tony begins making major decisions about distribution of the drugs (decisions that Omar believes Frank should be approving). Omar and Tony begin arguing over the matter, while Alejandro offers Omar a quick helicopter ride back home. However, Alejandro makes one of his henchmen hang and kill Omar, who was allegedly an informant for the police some years back. However, Alejandro believes that Tony is trustworthy and makes him one of his business partners. After returning to Florida, Tony comes under heat by Frank, who is angry at what had occurred in South America and about his new business arrangement with Alejandro. Tony and Frank end their business relationship, while Tony begins making bolder passes at Elvira, one of them right in front of Frank.

One night at a nightclub, Tony is nearly shot and killed by two hitmen, later suggested to be the Diaz Brothers, two drug kingpins in charge of cocaine distribution in Miami. Tony shoots back at them, escaping in the process. Tony is convinced Frank is responsible for the hit, and he, Manny, Chi Chi, and a few others track Frank down to his car dealership place and kill him once he admits to it.

hmmmm now our hero's ambition is going to become true or not! will he ever conquer the underworld and what happens to his lady love is the remaining heart touching action climax.

As per Vish: First thing first this is out and out Alpacino's movie there is not even a single frame where he is absent, and obviously he does deserve kudos for his pathbraking performance. Have a nice evening with this 'Scarface'
