The Doors

Heeey people I hope you all are having a great week and planning for Dasara Festival.. me too :) Ok coming back to movies today I am bringing you one of the most dramatic biography which made me stick to the chair till the end...it is none other than ...'The Doors'.So lets open the doors and see who are in...

The film opens during the recording of Jim Morrison's "An American Prayer" and quickly moves to a childhood memory of his family driving along a desert highway. Young Jim sees an elderly Native American dying by the roadside. The film picks up with Morrison's arrival in California and his assimilation into the Venice Beach culture, followed by his film school days studying at UCLA; his introduction to his girlfriend Pamela Courson, his first encounters with Ray Manzarek, and the origin of The Doors; Manzarek, Robby Krieger, and John Densmore.

Jim convinces his bandmates to travel to Death Valley and experience the mind-expanding effects of psychedelic drugs. Returning to Los Angeles, they play several shows at the famous Whiskey A-Go-Go club and develop a rabid fanbase. Jim's onstage antics and occasionally improvised lyrics often raise the ire of club owners; however, the band's popularity continues to expand.

As the fame of The Doors grows, Morrison's obsessions with death, sex, and drugs increase. The rest of the band grows weary of Morrison's missed recording sessions and absences at concerts. Morrison is depicted arriving late to a Miami, Florida concert, becoming increasingly confrontational towards the audience and possibly exposing himself onstage. The incident is a low point for the band, resulting in resentment from the other band members and Morrison's trial for indecent exposure.

awwww what happens to Morrison...will he ever able to sing like before or not....what happens to the famous band 'The Doors' is the remaining dramatic climax.

As per vish: This movie is defenetly not for typical audience who expects masala in every scene. And we hardly find comedy...all you find is rock...alcohol...drugs and sex. Direction is first rate and competes with some spectacular action by Val Kilmer and Meg Ryan. I am stressing once more that this movie is strictly for those audience who like to watch autobiography and who wants to here some hard rock. Have a nice week people :)

Directed by: Oliver Stone
Running time: 140 min

That Thing You Do!

hmmm I know that everyone got stuck with their work and studies and I am here to refresh you with a clean and romantic movie which dont have any fights, blood and thrilling scenes yet makes you attached to it. This movie title is called 'That thing you do'! sounds interesting right...lets know what is 'That Thing'...

The film follows the career of a fictional Erie, Pennsylvania rock band formed in the wake of the British Invasion. Guy Patterson (Tom Everett Scott, in his debut feature film role), a good drummer who idolizes jazz players such as the fictional Del Paxton, is asked by Jimmy (Johnathon Schaech) and Lenny (Steve Zahn) to fill in in their unnamed beat group, for their regular drummer Chad (Giovanni Ribisi), who is injured. The group's big chance is a battle of the bands. They are to play a ballad written by Jimmy, "That Thing You Do", and at the suggestion of Jimmy's girlfriend Faye (Liv Tyler) they adopt the name "The Wonders". Initially they spell it "Oneders" (as a play on the Beatles), but it is often mispronounced as the O-KNEE-DERS.

They win the $100 top prize in the competition, mainly because Guy plays the song at five times its rehearsed tempo and the band manages to keep up, and everybody gets up on the dance floor and dances to it. They get their first paying gig, at a pizza parlor, and at the request of a fan they enlist the help of Guy's Uncle Bob (Chris Isaak), who records songs and sermons for churches, to cut the song on vinyl.

The records sell well, and record producer Phil Horace, (Chris Ellis) buys one and then introduces himself to Guy. On Horace's promise that he will get them radio airplay and performance bookings in big cities like Pittsburgh and Steubenville, Ohio they sign him as their manager, despite Jimmy's initial reluctance to assign rights to his music.

The song is played three times in one day on WJET (then the real-life Top 40 radio station in Erie), and Horace gets them a gig in Pittsburgh sponsored by a prominent mattress salesman, 'Boss' Vic Koss (Kevin Pollak). Although the gig is a failure and they are booed off stage after a series of mishaps during their first set, a record company executive, Mr. White (Hanks) sees the show and, impressed, buys out Horace's contract, signs the band to his record company, Playtone, and changes the spelling of the name from The Oneders to The Wonders.

Alongside other Playtone artists, the band tours the country, and the rereleased single enters the Billboard Top 40. By the time it hits the Top 10, the band is ordered to leave the tour and go to meet Sol Siler, the head of Playtone, in California, for a promotional photo shoot. On the journey, White announces that the band will be appearing in a major motion picture. At Jimmy's urging, he also agrees to a recording session for the Wonders to make a complete album.

The film turns out to be a low quality beach movie. Jimmy becomes disillusioned and grows apart from the band and from Faye. At a live performance on the "CBS Television Showcase" with Troy Chesterfield (Peter Scolari), the words "Careful girls, he's engaged!" are captioned on the screen beneath Jimmy's image (an homage to "Sorry girls, he's married!" to John Lennon on the Ed Sullivan Show). After the show, Jimmy tells Faye that they are not engaged. Hurt by Jimmy's callousness and insensitivity, Faye tells him to stay away from her.

awww it is very touching right?....will Jimmy changes his attitude....what happens to Faye....Will Hanks really help them to achieve their target....will these Oneders create Wonders....to know the answers watch this movie.

As per vish: You dont want to have second thought to watch this movie as it is made by none other than 'Tom Hanks'. This is his debut movie and defenetly leaves his mark of sensitivity. Have a refreshing time :)
